Brooke Hahnert manages all of the marketing efforts at Composable Systems. Normally she’s the one asking the employee spotlight questions, but today she’s answering them.

What did you want to be when you were five years old? I wanted to be a fashion designer. I dreamed of having my clothes in stores.

When did you decide to enter the marketing field instead of the field of fashion design? Leaving high school I was dead-set on being an accountant. I’d taken classes in high school and knew it was the career for me. My first accounting professor in college absolutely crushed any love I had for the field. After that I decided to take my artistic side and combine it the best way I could with a business degree: marketing. I was lucky enough to intern with Composable Systems for a year in college and they hired me on full-time after graduation. It’s been two years and the best career decision I’ve made thus far.

If you weren’t a marketing coordinator, what would you be doing? Probably working in the hospitality or customer service industries. I previously worked for a utility company and in the ticketing office at the Belle of Louisville. I loved both of those jobs but it was mentally and physically exhausting. I still have a heart for the industry though.

What is the favorite part about working for Composable Systems? My favorite part is having autonomy. Being 23 and a recent graduate I know this is not something to take for granted. Working for a small company lends itself to trying lots of new things and being able to take some risk now and again. I also love the flexible work environment. Being able to work from home or leaving a bit early to hit the gym helps a lot with work-life balance.

What’s your favorite beverage after a long day? A glass of moscato. If I needed something to get me through the day, however, it would be a coconut latte from Red Hot Roasters in Butchertown.

What do you have to have with you at all times? My phone. It’s cliché but between personal and business accounts, I manage 15 social media profiles so I’m constantly keeping a pulse on all things digital.

When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time? If it’s unscheduled, I’ll sit down with some yarn and a crochet hook. If I can schedule it, I’ll head to Suspend Louisville to get some gym time in.

What chore do you absolutely hate doing? Washing dishes. I will vacuum or do laundry until the cows come home but I absolutely hate washing dishes. Thankfully, my husband likes washing dishes but hates drying them. He washes, I dry, and everyone is happy.

Do you have a favorite quote? Not certain who said it but a favorite of mine has always been, “You can do anything, but you can’t do everything.”

If you were stuck on an island what three things would you bring? A sunhat, a solar charger, and my Kindle.

When are you at your happiest? Sitting on the couch watching Jeopardy and drinking wine with my husband while listening to the rain pour down on Louisville. I love a good rainy day.
